Interterminal group of companies has been for 15 years providing an entire range of services of storing and handling cargoes of any description and receiving and dispatching cargoes by trucks and railway.
The group was created on the basis of the Parnas warehouse complex situated in the north of St. Petersburg in the Parnas industrial zone, in an area of 11.4 hectares, near the ringroad and Scandinavia federal highway, built in 1970 for the Soviet Ministry of Ship-building Industry.
In the autumn of 2004, in connection with the change of ownership, a program of modernization of the Interterminal-Parnas warehousing complex developed by the new managers and specialists of Interterminal group of companies was started. The modernization included the construction of dust-free concrete floors in most sections, which allowed to install new advanced stands and substantially raise the warehousing capacity. The implementation of advanced technologies of warehousing organization and the First-in — First-out (FIFO) target storing principle resulted in a high degree of automation of the processes of cargo handling and recording and made information on the condition of cargoes in safe-keeping immediately available to their owners. Also, advanced cargo handling equipment was purchased. Alongside the modernization of warehousing areas, the entire office building was upgraded to class B.
The program’s target is to use the warehousing areas as fully as possible, essentially improve and further perfect the quality of services, expand the range of services offered to customers, replace warehouse lease with safe custody and optimize production processes. Thus, Interterminal group of companies has started creating one of the largest logistics operators in St. Petersburg.
The success of the Interterminal-Parnas project encouraged a new project to build the new Interterminal-Predportovyi logistics center, the first class A multi-function transport and logistics complex in the North-Western federal district. The terminal is situated in the south of St. Petersburg near the railway station Predportovaya, in the direct vicinity of the Pulkovo airport, St. Petersburg sea port and the ringroad’s western high-speed diameter.
The contract of lease for a land plot of 18.4 hectares was made and a number of tenders were held for design of the transport and logistics complex, general works and supply of machines and equipment. Construction of the 1st stage of the complex including engineering networks, office center, 1st warehouse and container terminal was started in 2004.
After the entire complex is completed in the 2nd quarter of 2007, Interterminal-Predportovyi will become a class A warehousing complex fully meeting international standards of transport and logistics centers.
By the 2nd quarter of 2007 the operators of Interterminal group (Interterminal LLC and Interterminal-Predportovyi LLC) will operate an area with the capacity of 149,000 pallets of classes A and B+ for dry storage with temperatures +15°С to +25°С, 7,600 pallets of class B+ for dry cold storage, refrigerator facilities with the capacity of 33,500 tons, container handling and storage facilities with the capacity of 2,500 – 4,000 TEUs, two office centers of the total area 9,313.9 sq.m and a parking area for 135 heavy-duty trucks.
Interterminal group of companies will own 102,400 sq.m of class A and B+ heated dry storage warehouses, 9,720 sq.m of class B+ dry storage cold warehouses, 12,200 sq.m of refrigerator warehouses, Russia’s largest internal (domestic) container terminal of 33,255 sq.m, two office centers of the total area 9,313.9 sq.m and parking areas for 135 heavy-duty trucks.
